There is some kind of misinformation with internet marketing nowadays particularly when it comes to niche marketing. To cite an examples, many marketers try to make money on niche marketing by implementing what they see on brick-and-mortar retail businesses. But niche marketing on the web is different than running a store in a strip mall.

Because of the nature of the web, niche marketing can be easily done even by any internet marketer at any skill level and still succeed astonishingly. While many aspects of offline retail business and online niche marketing are very similar, there are a good number of differences also. In the free market, competition plays a big part in the day to day course of business. The same goes with niche marketing. This hub will point out some benefits and disadvantages involved with competitive and noncompetitive niche marketing.

Low competition or non-competitive niches

A lot of new internet marketers join the game looking for markets where they would have no or low competition. With this mindset, the marketer thinks that he will stand out and people will buy from him because there is low competition. This is a benefit of marketing in a low competition niche.

On the other side of the coin, a low competition market can be a "dead" market with no buyers and this could be the reason why not many marketers are competing in that niche. Nobody will have an interest in the products or services that you plan to market. There would not be any customers, so you wouldn't make much money at all in the end.

But this could be outweighed by the benefit of no competition, in that buyers will easily find you. If it's a yet untapped market, then you can be a pioneer in that niche and establish your foothold.

Perhaps why you don't have plenty of competition is that For instance, don't try and sell cactuses in the desert ; The peculiar thing is that high-competition generally means that the niche market is extraordinarily active and rewarding.

High competition niche

The advantage of marketing in competitive niches is that there is always a good chance to make money since there is a high demand in the market. Also, because there are a lot of players in the market, you get the opportunity to work alongside people who have become successful and who might be able to help you or even partner with you. Marketing in competitive niche market is the best way to learn, because you get lessons from successful marketers and also you get the opportunity to test your ideas and explore new techniques against current practices.

Because of this newbies may be at a disadvantage in a competitive niche and they could get easily discouraged when they don't get leads or visitors to their websites and sales pages. With a lot of established rivals, it might take more time to get a foothold in the market.
